We are uniquely able to do what we do, solely because of our big data repository. It is this repository that allows us to be compliant with social media company's Terms of Service/Privacy policies, as we are only using information they make publicly available via their API's. We take these small pieces of publicly available data and, through our software, match (not scrape or decode) it against contact data we already have within our repository. With search engine listening our data repository ...

Do emails go out from Digital Direct or my own email account?

In our typical set-up the email is not going out from your actual email address, it is going through our email servers and an email address of ours. That said, we do two things to customize the emails so they have your name/branding. The first is setting up your name/brand as the "Friendly From". This is what recipients see when they are looking at their inbox. The second is using your name as part of the email address. So it would look something like: toddw@of11media.com We also do have a s...

Why can't I send emails from my aol, gmail, yahoo or other general email address?

This means you need to use an email address from the organization you are sending from, not a 3rd party email provider like gmail, yahoo, aol, outlook, hotmail etc. Here's an excerpt of what the CAN-SPAM Act (https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business...

If I purchase Hot Leads from Digital Direct and send through my own email service provider, can I get in trouble because I don't have an opt-in?

In the United States, the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 is more of an opt out law than an opt in law. In other words, while it may be legal to send unsolicited commercial email in the U.S., you must include an unsubscribe link and honor any such unsubscribes within 10 days. Of course, there are many other requirements as well, such as don't use deceptive subject lines, don't use misleading header information, etc. Here is a great summary from The Federal Trade Commission of the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 (ht...

My open rate statistics seem a little off

The Open Rate is calculated by dividing the number of Opens by the number of emails sent (emails sent minus those still throttled.) If when you calculate this manually it is different than what is displaying on your stats report, it is because the stats on your report also have deducted those that unsubscribed after reading and opting-in and bounces. When a reader unsubscribes after already opting-in they are deducted from the displayed stats, but not the percentages.

Email subject length and restrictions

How and why does Digital Direct throttle emails

Digital Direct has a "throttling" process on emails being sent that is engineered for creating maximum deliverability. When you begin, your account has zero email reputation. Our job is to, as quickly as possible, create a positive reputation so you have a strong, direct communications channel to get your emails to your prospects. That's what the throttling drip process is designed to accomplish. Here's how it works: Whenever you send to a "new" email, that hasn't been sent before, we spread ou...

Definitions of Terms

Readers: In general these are people who have opened your email. In specific, to be counted as a "reader" the images in your email need to have displayed. For many email software clients this requires the recipient to click on a button to display images. If they don't they'll still be able to read text and click, but because the images have not displayed, they won't be counted as a "reader." Throttled: These are emails that have not yet made it to the readers account. It could be because they h...
